St Peters School
A fun filled day with the children from St Peters Catholic Primary School, Coleambally filling calico Bitterns bird also known as the “Bunyip bird” with local rice and decorating them to raise awareness for the endangered status of the Australian Bittern. It was awesome to see the children expressing themselves through art and learning about the Bittern bird while creating Bittern character’s. The Bitterns formed a small exhibition held at St Peters School and was also a part of the ‘Threatened Birds of the Riverina’ Art Exhibition that travelled around different areas of the Riverina.
These sculptures were proudly funded by the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 3, Murrumbidgee Council Local Champions Project. It was also made possible by helper Lorna Wigham, students and teachers at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, and Samantha Davies and Harry McCrabb from Pataurus Education Group.
